When someone asks ChatGPT, Google AI, or Perplexity who to trust with short-term rental revenue management in Charleston, SynergyStays doesn't come up — twice tested, twice absent, while RedAwning, Vacasa, Curated Vacation Properties, and four others do.
The site itself is in better shape than most audits we run: content is server-rendered (AI crawlers can actually read it), robots.txt allows every major AI bot, and the business has a real Google Business Profile with a perfect 5.0 rating. But three gaps are keeping AI engines from trusting what they find: three different phone numbers across three sources, a review count 59x smaller than the nearest tracked competitor, and structured data that exists on exactly one page.
The good news: none of this requires a rebuild. SynergyStays already has the content assets — real case-study numbers, video testimonials, an active blog with named guests — that most businesses we audit are missing entirely. The gap is entity cleanup, not content creation.
We tested the questions a prospective client actually asks, not just your business name.
Bottom line: SynergyStays is a real, findable business once someone searches its exact name — but invisible to the category questions that drive AI-assisted discovery, which is the actual test that matters.
| Source | Phone shown |
|---|---|
| Google Business Profile (live API pull, Sep 3) | (843) 258-8891 |
| Yelp / BBB | (843) 259-2053 |
| synergystayslocal.com (your own homepage) | Not published anywhere |
AI engines use phone-number matching as a core signal for "is this the same business." Two different numbers across your two most-trusted directory sources — and none at all on the site those directories point to — is exactly the fragmentation pattern that suppresses AI confidence in an entity.
Live Google Business Profile data (pulled Sep 3): SynergyStays has 9 reviews at 5.0 stars. Your rating is excellent — better than every tracked competitor. But AI engines weight volume as a confidence signal independent of rating, and the documented 2026 threshold for AI recommendation is approximately 25 reviews at 4.3+. You clear the rating bar by a wide margin and miss the volume bar by more than half.
Checked the homepage and /about directly. The homepage has one JSON-LD block — {"@type":"WebSite","name":"SynergyStays","url":"..."} — with no address, phone, service area, logo, or sameAs links to your own BBB (A+), Yelp, Facebook, or Instagram profiles. /about and your other marketing pages carry zero schema. Your blog, running on Wix's built-in engine, is the exception — it automatically generates full BlogPosting/Organization/Person schema on every post.
ChatGPT gets ~70% of its local business data from Foursquare and licenses Yelp's review corpus. Google AI Mode leans on Google's own Knowledge Graph. Here's where SynergyStays stands, checked directly:
Summary: present on the platforms that matter most (Google, Yelp, Facebook) but missing or unconfirmed on all three of Foursquare, Bing, and Apple — the trio that feeds ChatGPT and Siri specifically.
Live Google Business Profile data, pulled directly Sep 3 — not estimated.
| Business | Reviews | Rating | AI-recommended? |
|---|---|---|---|
| SynergyStays | 9 | 5.0 | No |
| Curated Vacation Properties | 535 | 4.9 | Yes |
| Happy Homes Property Manager | 113 | 4.9 | Yes |
| SkyRun Vacation Rentals (Kiawah) | 16 | 4.8 | Sometimes |
Review gap vs. the nearest confirmed competitor (Curated Vacation Properties): 59:1. SkyRun Kiawah — the closest peer by volume at 16 reviews — shows the gap is closeable, not structural: you need roughly 16 more reviews to match your nearest real competitor's floor, not hundreds.
Unlike most audits we run, this is not the problem here. Homepage H1s and body copy are present in the raw HTML response (verified via direct fetch, no JS execution needed), and robots.txt has no disallow rules for OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, or GPTBot. Sitemap is valid and current (pages-sitemap last modified today).
A page should carry one H1 stating its primary topic. Your homepage has seven — the hero line, sub-headline, three numbered step labels, a section headline, and a CTA headline all marked as top-level. This dilutes the single clearest signal a crawler uses to identify what the page is about.
Not independently verified against Google's real Core Web Vitals tool (PageSpeed Insights quota was exhausted on the key available at audit time) — flagged as a risk area to re-check, not a scored finding.
Wix's own blog engine auto-generates solid schema (see §2) — the gap is specifically on hand-built marketing pages, which is a content-team fix, not a platform migration.
| Business | Why AI picks them | Their edge |
|---|---|---|
| Curated Vacation Properties | 535 reviews, 4.9 stars, downtown Charleston address, developed revenue-optimization engine of their own | Review volume is 59x yours plus a clean, single directory presence. |
| RedAwning / Awning | National distribution scale, 20,000+ properties, consistently named across "best of" roundup articles | Roundup-article presence is exactly what AI engines cite for category queries. |
| Vacasa | Largest STR manager in North America, dominant brand recognition | Scale and press coverage AI models were trained on directly. |
| HostStarter | Publishes its own performance numbers (51% higher occupancy, 92% owner retention, 4.9 guest rating) directly in searchable content | Quantified, citable claims in their own content — the same asset SynergyStays has but hasn't structured for AI. |
The pattern: every business that appears has (1) either high review volume or national roundup-article presence, and (2) claims/numbers published in a form AI can extract and cite. SynergyStays has real numbers (23% average earnings increase, a documented 136% YoY case) — they're on the site, just not structured or distributed the way the businesses above have theirs.
Most AI-visibility audits find a business with no case studies, no testimonials, no content program. SynergyStays has all three: documented revenue-increase numbers, video testimonials, and an active blog with real named-guest interviews (Dan Rivers appears across five posts). It also already runs a sophisticated ~10-page personalized video-pitch outbound motion — genuine sales infrastructure most competitors in this comparison don't have.
None of that is reaching AI engines because it isn't connected to structured data or a consistent entity identity. Fixing NAP + schema + review volume is materially cheaper than building the content this audit would otherwise have recommended from zero.
sameAs links to BBB, Yelp, Facebook, and Instagram.| Category | Weight | Your Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI Platform Mentions | 25 | 0/25 | Absent from two independent category queries |
| Directory Presence & NAP | 20 | 8/20 | Present on GBP/Yelp/BBB/Facebook, but two conflicting phone numbers and missing on Foursquare/Bing/Apple |
| Review Volume & Quality | 20 | 5/20 | Perfect 5.0 rating, but 9 reviews vs. a 25-review AI threshold and a 535-review nearest competitor |
| Website AI Readability | 15 | 11/15 | Genuine strength — server-rendered content, no crawler blocks. Docked for unverified page weight |
| Schema & Structured Data | 10 | 2/10 | One bare WebSite block on the homepage only; nothing on marketing pages |
| Content Authority (E-E-A-T) | 10 | 6/10 | Real testimonials, named-guest blog content, quantified case studies — genuinely above average, just not structured for AI extraction |
| Total | 100 | 32/100 |
One phone number, three directory claims, sixteen reviews, and schema on the pages that already have the content. Fifteen minutes on the phone covers the whole plan.
